Empowering Futures

Tia's Journey with Spiral's Engage Programme

In a world where the transition from education to employment can seem daunting, programmes like Spiral's Engage shine as guiding lights, nurturing the aspirations and skills of tomorrow's leaders. Today, we dive into the transformative journey of Tia, a 15-year-old student in year 10 at New Regents College, whose experience exemplifies the profound impact of youth-focused initiatives.

Spiral's Engage programme supports the potential of young individuals navigating the complexities of career exploration and skill development. Focusing on strengthening communication, self-reflection, and ambition, the programme offers students a pathway to personal and professional growth. Funded by BBC Children In Need, Engage seeks to address the challenges young people face in accessing opportunities and realising their full potential in the education-to-employment space.

At New Regents College, Tia embarked on a journey of self-discovery and skill enhancement through the programme. Structured as 10 weekly sessions, the programme delved into various personal and professional development aspects, including our popular self-awareness session.

For Tia, the Self-Awareness session emerged as a pivotal moment of exploration and creativity. Through introspection and artistic expression, she unearthed facets of her identity and aspirations, translating them into wearable art—a tangible representation of her personal brand.

it made me realise more about who I am as a person as well as allowing me to get creative and put my findings on things that represent me as a person on something I can wear.

Beyond this, Tia's journey was marked by challenges and triumphs, each contributing to developing essential skills like communication and resilience.

doing so many activities that are outside your comfort zone and you have no knowledge about but figuring it out with the people around you and getting through barriers makes you acknowledge your capabilities.

The impact of the Engage Programme on Tia's journey is tangible and life-changing. Enhanced focus, newfound resilience, and a deepened self-awareness underscored the programme's transformative nature for her. Tia's reflections offer a glimpse into the lasting effects of Engage, highlighting its role in instilling confidence and belief in one's abilities.

you don’t realise the skills you’ve built up until unexpectedly you see improvement on the things you reflect on in the sessions in your everyday life.

Reflecting on Tia's journey, we see valuable insights into the power of youth-focused initiatives in shaping futures and fostering personal growth. Tia's journey is a testament to the importance of creating spaces where young individuals can explore their interests, develop essential skills, and reclaim confidence.

To those considering participation in the Spiral programme, Tia offers a resounding endorsement. While acknowledging the occasional challenges of the journey, she emphasises Engage's transformative impact on everyday life.

it connects young people to a range of opportunities allowing them to gain back their passion and belief that they can achieve what they put their mind to.

As we look to the future, let us seize the opportunity to empower more young leaders like Tia, unlocking their potential and paving the way for brighter tomorrows.

As we celebrate her journey, let us be reminded of the transformative power of programmes like Engage in shaping futures and nurturing dreams. Together, we can create a world where every young person has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.
