We are thrilled to be running Futures Festival again this year in partnership with Big Local Impact and the Angell Town Funded partners, this Thursday 25th October, 12 - 5pm at St John’s Primary School, Angell Town.

Futures Festival is a not for profit, community-led careers fair with a mission to get young people excited about their future. The festival brings an incredible opportunity network to Angell Town’s young people, inviting them to explore 8 interactive industry zones, each flanked by 60+ organisations offering live employment, apprenticeship, training opportunities and support services.

The 8 interactive industry zones on the day are designed to support young attendee’s decision making, enabling them to essentially try a career, before they buy it. Each workshop is led by local youth workers, and place a particular focus on developing young people’s transferable skills and self esteem. Industries showcased include; creative arts & media, tourism and hospitality, health and social care, business and finance, construction and engineering, entrepreneurialism, food and music.

This event is FREE for young attendees aged 14-25, who will also enjoy a free lunch from the street food market provided by KERB, sports activities from Football Beyonds Borders and Dwaynamics, and live music and performances from local young talents at Raw Material, School Ground Sounds, Advocacy Academy and the The Poetry Society.

The story

The Angell Town Funded Group is a collection of incredible organisations providing vital support services to the local community. Led by the Big Local Impact, the group meet qu. mklk. arterly to discuss local issues, and how best to tackle them together. A growing concern arose about the complex barriers young people from the area were facing towards achieving employment. The group decided a careers fair was needed on the estate, to boost young people’s access to worthwhile opportunities. Spiral have been fortunate to deliver a number of careers interventions to the young characters of Angell Town, and pulled on our opportunity network and interactive approach to support the development of the event.

We piloted the event last year, which was attended by 200 young people and 40 contributing organisations. The success of the pilot has enabled us to secure funding to do it bigger and better this year, with the support of kind sponsors The London Community Foundation, The Big Lottery Awards For All, and The Tom’s Trust. This year we hope to welcome 300 young attendees, joined by 60 opportunity planners.
