Help Raise £20,000 to #EmpowerFutures!

At Spiral Skills, our vision is to foster a more inclusive society where every young individual has the chance to develop essential skills, access opportunities, and feel empowered to enact change. Our programmes and services are designed to ignite excitement for the future, instill motivation to achieve it, and equip them with essential skills for life.

We are excited to announce the launch of our #EmpowerFutures crowdfund campaign, and invite you to join us in crafting a narrative of empowerment, resilience, and tangible triumphs. Why is this important? Today’s young people often feel overlooked and unsupported. They need safe spaces to explore who they are, connect with others, and access the resources they need to unlock their potential.

Your support has the power to change lives. By donating, you’re helping us empower future changemakers in our community and providing essential support that every young person deserves.

Our campaign mission

Our #EmpowerFutures crowdfund campaign goal is to raise £20,000 by December to help us expand our services from The Factory Brixton, a new youth space designed for skills-building, well-being, and opportunity.

Our #EmpowerFutures campaign focuses on three key areas of need:

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing: We need to address a growing crisis and resource more therapeutic support for our youth community.

  • Breaking the cycle of exclusion: We need more inclusive pathways for young people excluded from the education system.

  • Creating Safer Spaces: We need more environments where young people can feel safe and thrive.

How Spiral Skills is Empowering the Youth Community?

We’re dedicated to shaping the future for young people as they navigate the complexities of transitioning into adulthood. Our core values—development, connection, and empowerment—guide our efforts throughout South London.

  • Develop Essential Skills: Our dynamic workshops and personalised mentoring help young people build confidence, improve their communication skills, and develop leadership abilities.

  • Connect to Opportunity: We connect young people with valuable opportunities, including work experience, training, and various support services.

  • Empower Future Changemakers: We instil a sense of agency in young people, enabling them to drive positive change at both local and national levels.

“The best thing about the programme was stepping out of my comfort zone and feeling more confident sharing my ideas.”

why our #empowerfutures campaign matters: responding to a growing need

Young people throughout the UK face a myriad of complex challenges, often leaving individuals with unresolved trauma and a lack of vital support. Here’s why our campaign is urgent:

  • Mental Health: About 44% of underserved young people are dealing with severe psychological distress, and 75% find it difficult to access help. The COVID-19 pandemic has only made things worse, leading to increased isolation.

  • Cycle of Exclusion: Last year, over 9,000 students were permanently excluded from schools, which is a staggering 44% increase. This disproportionately affects those from underserved backgrounds and can severely impact their future education and job prospects.

  • Lack of Safe Spaces: Since 2010, youth services have faced cuts amounting to £1.1 billion, leading to the closure of more than 760 youth centres. As a result, many young people no longer have a safe place to grow, learn, and connect with others.

Our solution

Our trauma-informed programmes focus on emotional and mental well-being, providing young people with access to one-to-one mentoring, therapeutic support, and community connections. We help young people improve their mental health while preparing them for employment and education.

We provide skills development and employment pathways for young people excluded from traditional education. By offering personalised support and holistic programmes, we equip young people with the tools they need to break the cycle of exclusion.

We’re a member of The Brixton Factory, a hub of creativity and community. Our new office is a safe space designed by young people, for young people. This hub will provide one-to-one career support, employment skills training, and entrepreneurial opportunities—all in a space that fosters community connections and growth.

We understand how important it is for young people to have safe spaces where they can truly be themselves. Without these environments, where they can explore who they are, connect with others, and learn beyond the classroom, many young people can be left isolated and unsupported.

That’s why we’re so excited about our new HQ at The Brixton Factory. This space will allow us to expand our support, reaching even more young people who may be unsure of their place in the world. Together, we’ll create opportunities, provide skills, and foster personal growth to help them thrive and succeed.

"Spiral is really an interesting programme, and really good if you want to improve on your social and communication skills. It also helps give you a sense of direction in what you want to do with your life."
